Max Verstappen’s 2021 FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Championship car to be exclusively displayed at the Formula 1® Exhibition Vienna
From February 2, 2024, the Red Bull RB16B in which Max Verstappen won the FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX 2021 and was crowned world champion for the first time will be on display.
The Formula 1® Exhibition is delighted to announce the Red Bull RB16B in which Max Verstappen won his first FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Championship in 2021, will be on display when the groundbreaking show opens at the METAStadt on February 2nd, 2024.
In the hands of Max Verstappen, the RB16B took ten Grand Prix wins and eight second places, securing Verstappen’s first and Red Bull’s first Championship since 2013 – marking the end of seven years of Mercedes dominance.
The 2021 Formula 1® season was marked by the ongoing battle between Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, who went into the final in Abu Dhabi tied on points, resulting in one of the most exciting finales in the sport’s history.
In an exclusive interview for the Formula 1® Exhibition, Christian Horner, Team Principal, Oracle Red Bull Racing spoke about that incredible season: “2021 was the most epic season I can remember. There was the epic battle between Max and Lewis over nine months, a legendary contest that was almost unbeatable in terms of tension right to the end. When we arrived in Saudi for the penultimate race, you could see that there were two drivers who were going to give absolutely everything and use all their skills to win. It was the most incredible finale, that last lap where for most of the race it felt like it was slipping away from us. But strategically we were on point and made the right decisions at the right time.”
Designed by Adrian Newey and his team, RB16 was originally supposed to be used for the 2020 season – with new, significantly changed technical regulations due to come into effect for 2021. Following the unprecedented effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the decision was taken by Formula 1® and the teams to defer the changes until 2022. Instead, the 2021 season saw all teams run their 2020 chassis with small but important changes – hence the RB16B.
Opening on 2nd February 2024 at the renowned METAStadt Vienna, the Formula 1® Exhibition has been officially developed in association with Formula 1® and the immersive show boasts a wide range of artefacts and contributions from the sport’s most legendary teams, experts and personalities.
Delving far beyond what fans have ever seen before, the show’s seven unique rooms use bold, technology-led design features and large-scale interactive displays to lift the lid on the past, present and future of Formula 1®.
Several years in the making, the exhibition combines spectacular audio-visual design, rare film and imagery, engineering and educational displays, sculptural pieces and iconic Grand Prix™ cars to deliver an unforgettable experience for everyone – from avid followers to younger fans and families.
