The Formula 1® Exhibition extends its stay in Madrid, as Carlos Sainz visits for the first time

London, UK – 09:00, 11 May 2023: Carlos Sainz has described the breathtaking moment he first saw Romain Grosjean’s burnt-out chassis on display at The Formula 1® Exhibition Madrid, as the ground-breaking show announces its extension in the Spanish capital.
The Ferrari driver was quick to visit when the world-first exhibition was officially opened by Formula 1® President & CEO Stefano Domenicali in his home city on 23 March 2023. Initially set to run until 4 June, the show has today announced that due to phenomenal demand it will extend its stay in Madrid until 16 July 2023.
The Formula 1® Exhibition has quickly become Spain’s biggest temporary show this year in terms of ticket sales, with an unprecedented number of fans visiting across the opening months and weekend tickets selling out far in advance. Sainz believes it is unlike anything he has ever seen before.
“It’s an absolute must for F1 fans” he explained after experiencing the show at IFEMA Madrid.
“But also for anyone who wants to understand a bit better about our sport and what we do. The way the exhibition takes you through our sport history is very insightful and entertaining.
“There’s a great collection of items that are normally very difficult to see and very interesting interviews with some of the most iconic people of F1.
“The moment I knew the first ever F1 exhibition was going to premiere in Madrid I was extremely happy. Our country has a long-lasting relationship with motorsport and F1 and I am proud to see Madrid, my hometown, hosting this project.
“I am also very happy to contribute to the exhibition by having my own showcase and sharing with everyone some of the most valuable and memorable items of my racing career.”
The immersive show boasts a wide-range of artefacts and contributions from the sport’s most legendary teams, experts and personalities. Highlights include Pierre Gasly’s ‘Monza Miracle’ maiden race-winning car and the first public display of a Scuderia Ferrari power unit since the early 2000s.
Following a close collaboration between the Moneygram Haas F1® Team and the show’s producers, the remains of Romain Grosjean’s car from his dramatic crash at the FORMULA 1 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX 2020 are also on public display for the first time.
The chassis is hosted in a purpose-built room titled ‘Survival’ and is accompanied by a large video installation showing previously unseen footage of the crash, which Sainz admits had a profound impact on him.
“The most shocking piece in my opinion is of course the burnt chassis of Romain Grosjean,” he continued.
“It is a great reminder of how dangerous this sport can be, despite all modern safety measures. It’s also a reminder of what we drivers put on the line every time we go racing.
“I am also a massive fan of vintage F1 cars and car parts, so it was great to see so many in the show. The development and technological advances of F1 are really unique and unmatched by any other sport.”
